Englewood motorcyclist killed in head-on collision on 776

FHP logoENGLEWOOD, Fla. – An Engle­wood motor­cy­clist was killed Thurs­day when his vehi­cle was struck by a car dri­ven by an elderly woman, the Florida High­way Patrol said.

Sarasota sheriff: Missing woman has been found

SARASOTA, Fla. - Sylvia Sue Charles, 73, has been found and is safe, the Sara­sota County Sheriff’s Office said.

The announce­ment came at 7:19 p.m. Fri­day, Dec. 30. No fur­ther details were relayed.

SSCO on Fri­day announced a Sil­ver Alert for Charles, who, accord­ing to the Char­lotte County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), suf­fers from Demen­tia and Alzheimers Dis­ease. CCSO said on Thurs­day that the last time she had been seen was at 10 a.m. Thurs­day on Placida Road, but on Fri­day SSCO said she’d been seen Thurs­day after­noon in Sarasota.

ROTONDA, Fla. — As we approach the new year, win­ter ten­nis games are unfold­ing at the Rotonda Com­mu­nity Park ten­nis courts. Mas­ters Ten­nis’ POP 60 and Fuzz Ball will debut with a demon­stra­tion and clinic for both on Jan.21, start­ing at 10 a.m., with play con­tin­u­ing every other week there­after.  Spe­cial rack­ets and balls will be pro­vided for these Mas­ters car­dio games.

Join Ann­marie Fear­ing, Uni­ver­sity of South­ern Mis­sis­sippi grad­u­ate stu­dent, at a lec­ture at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 11 at Bayshore Live Oak Park to learn about the crit­i­cally endan­gered large-tooth saw­fish pop­u­la­tion, how it has changed over the last cen­tury, and the study being under­taken to col­lect DNA from exist­ing saw­fish ros­tra (saws).  These stud­ies help sci­en­tists under­stand more about the past saw­fish pop­u­la­tions so that they can be bet­ter man­aged in the future. ENGLEWOOD, Fla. – Meet Sammy, the Sun­coast Humane Society’s pet of the week.

Sammy is a 5-year-old Domes­tic Short­hair weigh­ing 14 pounds.  He has a soft, white coat and golden eyes. Sammy is much like Mighty in that he enjoys the com­pany of peo­ple of all ages as well as the com­pany of dogs. He’s been well trained, comes when called, can climb a bunk bed lad­der and can also open door latches.  He is a clas­si­cally curi­ous cat and an excel­lent hunter who will alert you to an intrud­ing spi­der or other unwanted bug.   Sammy, like most cats, feels com­fort­able in high places.  He has a very pleas­ant dis­po­si­tion and enjoys attention.

ENGLEWOOD, Fla. — Eighty-eight ani­mals are “Home for the Hol­i­days” this Decem­ber thanks to Sun­coast Humane Society’s holiday-themed adop­tion pro­mo­tion. This exceeded their goal of 75 ani­mals adopted.

Tiffany was one such lucky pup to find her new home. This sweet 11-year-old senior Jack Rus­sell Ter­rier was brought to Sun­coast Humane Soci­ety when the only owner she ever knew passed away. In need of den­tal work, Tiffany became part of our Shel­ter Angel pro­gram, a donor-supported pro­gram designed to pro­vide med­ical funds for the imme­di­ate needs of ani­mals in Suncoast’s care. Englewood driver cited in pedestrian death

Sarasota County Sheriff's Office police cruisers fill the parkinENGLEWOOD, Fla. – An Engle­wood cyclist died Sun­day after being struck by a truck in the park­ing lot at 55 Indi­ana Ave., accord­ing to the Sara­sota County Sheriff’s Office.
