S. Gulf Cove man charged with child sex offense

A South Gulf Cove man was arrested Fri­day and charged with hav­ing sex with an 11-year-old girl.

The girl told a Char­lotte County deputy April 25 that she had sex sev­eral times over the past four to six weeks with Scott Lawrence Van­sice, 37, of Rose­bud Cir­cle, accord­ing to a Char­lotte County Sheriff’s Office press release.

The Sara­sota County Sheriff’s Office ha removed 263 small dogs from a home in Venice Acres.

Ani­mal Ser­vices removed the dogs over the past few days from 220 High Point Drive, Venice.

Each month the Rotonda VFW Post 10476 and its Ladies’ Aux­il­iary spon­sor Vineland Ele­men­tary School’s Leader of the Month Pro­gram. This pro­gram is designed to rec­og­nize stu­dents for their out­stand­ing per­for­mance and good cit­i­zen­ship. The pupils listed below were hon­ored at an assem­bly on April 26, where they were rec­og­nized on stage and received a spe­cial ribbon.

Man charged in three Englewood burglaries

Char­lotte County Sheriff’s detec­tives arrested an Engle­wood man Mon­day and charged him with bur­glar­iz­ing three vehi­cles near his home.

Charged with three counts of Bur­glary of a Con­veyance and three counts of Petit Theft is Andrew Dar­rell Nei­d­ing, 23, 2000 block of Geor­gia Avenue.

Ex NFL player speaks to Lemon Bay group

For­mer NFL defen­sive end Rhondy Weston recently spoke to a group of Lemon Bay High athletes.

A group of Lemon Bay High School student-athletes were recently given the ben­e­fit of the wis­dom gained by some­one who worked his way to the top and cre­ated a bet­ter life for himself.

Mem­bers of the Manta Ath­letic Lead­er­ship Acad­emy (MALA) heard guest speaker Rhondy Weston talk about how his real­iza­tion that doing all you can do, as opposed to just what you are required to do, led him from a child­hood in Belle Glade to a year in the National Foot­ball League and into the busi­ness world.

Englewood man charged with possessing child porn

John Anthony Hughes, 41, of the 1300 block of Over­brook Road, was arrested Mon­day by the Sara­sota County Sheriff’s Office and charged with pos­ses­sion of child pornography.

As a result of an inves­ti­ga­tion over the past few months by a detec­tive with the Inter­net Crimes Against Chil­dren Task Force, deputies exe­cuted a search war­rant at Hughes’s home Monday.

Denim and Diamonds rakes in cash for EES

The Denim and Dia­monds Gala for Engle­wood Ele­men­tary School held March 24 at Boca Royale Coun­try Club by Engle­wood Ele­men­tary School PTA raised approx­i­mately $30,000 between the silent and live auc­tions, spon­sor­ships, the Giv­ing Tree and tick­ets sold to kick off a free-car drawing.

Dec­o­ra­tions were art­work pro­vided by EES stu­dents and enter­tain­ment by auc­tion­eer Tom Hinck, hus­band of EES art teacher Dawn Hinck. The live auc­tion con­sisted of Rotonda Golf and Coun­try Club mem­ber­ship, a cus­tom play house, beach­side vaca­tion in the Bahamas, Flight of your Life Expe­ri­ence, Wake­board­ing Expe­ri­ence, a pri­vate catered din­ner party and reserved park­ing for the 2012–2013 school year.
