Home for Holidays’ Exceeds Expectations at Suncoast Humane Society

ENGLEWOOD, Fla. — Eighty-eight ani­mals are “Home for the Hol­i­days” this Decem­ber thanks to Sun­coast Humane Society’s holiday-themed adop­tion pro­mo­tion. This exceeded their goal of 75 ani­mals adopted.

Tiffany was one such lucky pup to find her new home. This sweet 11-year-old senior Jack Rus­sell Ter­rier was brought to Sun­coast Humane Soci­ety when the only owner she ever knew passed away. In need of den­tal work, Tiffany became part of our Shel­ter Angel pro­gram, a donor-supported pro­gram designed to pro­vide med­ical funds for the imme­di­ate needs of ani­mals in Suncoast’s care. Englewood driver cited in pedestrian death

Sarasota County Sheriff's Office police cruisers fill the parkinENGLEWOOD, Fla. – An Engle­wood cyclist died Sun­day after being struck by a truck in the park­ing lot at 55 Indi­ana Ave., accord­ing to the Sara­sota County Sheriff’s Office.

Mark Chap­man, 63, took his final bow Aug. 15, 2016, dying sud­denly due to a brief illness.

Mark was born in Hyan­nis, Mass., June 27, 1953, the son of the late Carl W. and Martha C. Chap­man. He met his wife, Nancy (Guen­ther), at the Smithville The­ater in New Jer­sey in 1976 and they mar­ried a year later. Con­tinue read­ing this story…

CHARLOTTE COUNTY – The Char­lotte County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) will pay spe­cial atten­tion to traf­fic enforce­ment at these loca­tions from Sept. 19 to Sept. 25:

Speed Enforce­ment:

      • The entire length of Bound­ary Boulevard
      • Tami­ami Trail (U.S. 41) between Cor­nelius Drive and Toledo Blade Boulevard

Traf­fic light enforce­ment: 

  • South McCall Road and Ori­ole Boulevard
  • Tami­ami Trail (U.S. 41) and Jones Loop Road

Char­lotte County has 19 vehi­cle deaths so far this year, accord­ing to the Depart­ment of High­way Safety & Motor Vehi­cles. There were 19 deaths this same time last year.

The annual 24-hour Giv­ing Chal­lenge will kick off for Sun­coast Humane Soci­ety on Sept. 20th, at noon, and with this year’s theme of “Be The One”, it is a per­fect fit for the home­less ani­mals of Sun­coast Humane Soci­ety! Will you “Be The One” for the adopt­able ani­mals of Sun­coast Humane Soci­ety who are wait­ing for their happy ending?

To par­tic­i­pate in this year’s chal­lenge, visit Sun­coast Humane Society’s web­site any­time between noon Sept. 20th and noon Sept. 21st. Dur­ing this 24-hour period, dona­tions can be made online. With a min­i­mum dona­tion of just $25, this is an oppor­tu­nity for any­one to be a phil­an­thropist. Englewood cyclist hurt in hit and run
