Englewood Red Cross gets new vehicle

The Engle­wood Red Cross team has a new Emer­gency Response Vehi­cle (ERV) to bet­ter serve res­i­dents in time of dis­as­ter. The vehi­cle replaces a 1998 donated ambu­lance with more than 200,000 miles on it and was funded by a grant from the William G. and Marie Selby Foun­da­tion. Engle­wood Red Cross Coor­di­na­tor Keith Geurts says; “ The new ERV pro­vides us with a reli­able, cost effec­tive vehi­cle to respond to dis­as­ters in the Engle­wood area.” Con­tinue read­ing this story…

Answer: When it is the annual Engle­wood United Methodist Church Colos­sal Rum­mage sale, a three-day event with thou­sands of items that takes church vol­un­teers a week to set up after a year’s worth of col­lect­ing items.

Guest speaker Bill Dun­son, retired biol­ogy teacher from Penn State Uni­ver­sity, returns to the Lemon Bay His­tor­i­cal Soci­ety Tues­day, Feb. 22, for “Nat­ural Won­ders of Engle­wood Area Parks.”

The talk, which starts at 7 p.m. at the Green Street Church, 416 Green St., is free and open to the public.

Garden Club plans rummage sale

Need a new out­fit? Check out the Out­ra­geous Rum­mage Sale at the Lemon Bay Gar­den Club. Pos­ing, from left, are club mem­bers Kathy Myers, Barb McPart­land, Linda Schilke, Barb Jacob­son, Max­ine Brun­ner, Cris Hans­berger and Verna Newlon.

The Lemon Bay Gar­den Club is plan­ning a more-than-plants sale this month at its club­house at 480 Yale St.

The sale will include cloth­ing, plants, hand-crafted greet­ing cards and baked goods, along with dec­o­ra­tive items, appli­ances, kitchen­ware, books, tools, jew­elry, linens, lamps and collectibles.

The event is sched­uled for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sat­ur­day, Feb. 19.

Playhouse to honor its volunteers

The Lemon Bay Play­house will honor all of its vol­un­teers at a gala din­ner to be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Sat­ur­day,  Feb. 19, at the Tringali Cen­ter, 3460 S. McCall Road.

Man­ag­ing Direc­tor Mag­gie Deitsch stated that the the­ater could not suc­cess­fully oper­ate with­out the valu­able assis­tance of the many vol­un­teer who work tire­lessly and spend many hour work­ing on behalf of the playhouse.

Sing-waving political event set for Saturday

Tak­ing Our Coun­try Back will hold a sign wav­ing event, “Cel­e­brat­ing The Con­sti­tu­tion,” from 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 19, on the side­walk in front of the Engle­wood Shop­ping Cen­ter  at South Indi­ana Avenue and Cowles Street.

The pub­lic is invited and encour­aged to par­tic­i­pate. The mem­ber­ship is pro­vid­ing burg­ers and soda for $1.
