The Englewood Red Cross team has a new Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) to better serve residents in time of disaster. The vehicle replaces a 1998 donated ambulance with more than 200,000 miles on it and was funded by a grant from the William G. and Marie Selby Foundation. Englewood Red Cross Coordinator Keith Geurts says; “ The new ERV provides us with a reliable, cost effective vehicle to respond to disasters in the Englewood area.”

There’s always a huge turnout for the Colossal Rummage Sale at Englewood United Methodist Church.
Question: When is a rummage sale not just another rummage sale?
Answer: When it is the annual Englewood United Methodist Church Colossal Rummage sale, a three-day event with thousands of items that takes church volunteers a week to set up after a year’s worth of collecting items.
A Venice woman died this afternoon after a vehicle collision at the intersection of Oceanspray Boulevard and South McCall Road, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

Guest speaker Bill Dunson, retired biology teacher from Penn State University, returns to the Lemon Bay Historical Society Tuesday, Feb. 22, for “Natural Wonders of Englewood Area Parks.”
The talk, which starts at 7 p.m. at the Green Street Church, 416 Green St., is free and open to the public.

The Lemon Bay Garden Club is planning a more-than-plants sale this month at its clubhouse at 480 Yale St.
The sale will include clothing, plants, hand-crafted greeting cards and baked goods, along with decorative items, appliances, kitchenware, books, tools, jewelry, linens, lamps and collectibles.
The event is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19.
The Lemon Bay Playhouse will honor all of its volunteers at a gala dinner to be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at the Tringali Center, 3460 S. McCall Road.
Managing Director Maggie Deitsch stated that the theater could not successfully operate without the valuable assistance of the many volunteer who work tirelessly and spend many hour working on behalf of the playhouse.
Taking Our Country Back will hold a sign waving event, “Celebrating The Constitution,” from 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 19, on the sidewalk in front of the Englewood Shopping Center at South Indiana Avenue and Cowles Street.
The public is invited and encouraged to participate. The membership is providing burgers and soda for $1.
