Englewood biker critical after crash

An Engle­wood man was report­edly in crit­i­cal con­di­tion Tues­day after­noon after a wreck on U.S. 41 Bypass south of Seaboard Avenue.

John K. Bill, 58, was rushed to Blake Tauma Cen­ter in Braden­ton after his 2004 Harley-Davidson motor­cy­cle slammed into a 2002 Hyundai SUV dri­ven by Nor­man O. West, 75, of Venice.

Rotonda biker serious after crash

A Rotonda West man was seri­ously injured Sun­day after­noon when his 2006 Harley-Davidson Motor­cy­cle col­lided with a Chevy van at U.S. 41 and Via Veneto in Venice.

Paul D. Dun­lea, no age given, was taken to Blake Med­ical Cen­ter in Braden­ton after his motor­cy­cle slammed into the van, which, accord­ing to the Florida High­way Patrol report, turned in front of the Harley.

Additional charges filed against burglary suspect

Addi­tional charges have been filed against one of the sus­pects arrested last week in the spate of East Engle­wood and River­wood break-ins.

Nicole Marie Tan­guay, 28, 2700 block of Cerullo Street, North Port, was arrested March 8 and charged with dri­ving on a sus­pended license after Char­lotte County detec­tives fol­lowed her car out of Encore Park and onto the El Jobean bridge.

Pair charged in spate of burglaries

Two arrests have been made in a rash of  home bur­glar­ies in the East Engle­wood and River­wood Golf com­mu­nity in the El Jobean area.

The Char­lotte County Sheriff’s Office held a press con­fer­ence Thurs­day after­noon to announce the arrests of Christo­pher David Straw, 32, of the 3700 block of El Jobean Road, and Nicole Marie Tan­guay, 28, 2700 block of Cerullo Street, North Port.

Englewood motorcyclist killed in crash

A Florida High­way Patrol trooper checks out a 2009 Hyundai Accent involved in a fatal crash with a motor­cy­cle Wednes­day morn­ing on South McCalll Road in east Englewood.

An Engle­wood man was killed Mon­day morn­ing when he drove his motor­cy­cle into the path of a car on South McCall Road in east Engle­wood, accord­ing to a Florida High­way Patrol report.

Henry Kirsten, 59, was stopped at the stop sign headed north on Regina Drive at 7:08 a.m., then pulled onto South McCall Road into the path of a 2009 Hyundai Accent dri­ven by Lisa Bertolino, 43, of Port Char­lotte.  The front of the car struck the motor­cy­cle broad­side, accord­ing to the report.

Famed Cape Cod Musician Killed in Fort Myers

Lou Colombo, a leg­endary Cape Cod jazz trum­pet player who was the undis­puted king of the Mass­a­chu­setts resort area’s music scene for decades, was killed Fri­day night in a Fort Myers car crash.

Accord­ing to the Florida High­way Patrol report, Colombo, 84, of South Yarmouth, Mass., was dri­ving his 2005 Ford Freestar when he pulled out of Island Plaza onto McGre­gor Boule­vard and into the path of a 2010 Jeep Wran­gler. The acci­dent caused the busy road to be closed for about three hours, the report stated.

Horst Appich, 71, was found early Sun­day morn­ing, walk­ing along a road in Osprey, accord­ing to the Sara­sota County Sheriff’s Office.

Char­lotte County Sheriff’s detec­tives arrested a teenager Fri­day morn­ing in con­nec­tion with the Feb. 6 bur­glary of a home in the 10 block of  Bound­ary Boule­vard in Rotonda West. Charged with Bur­glary and Grand Theft was Anthony Michael Loy, 17, of the unit that adjoins the home where the bur­glary took place.
