An englewood woman was among four people arrested Thursday and charged with dealing drugs in November or December.
Melissa Rochel Lanier, 43, of Ebro Road remains in jail on $15,000 bond in connection with a November drug sale of Oxycodone. She is charged with Sale and Delivery of Oxycodone and Possession of Oxycodone.

An Englewood man was among five suspected drug dealers rounded up Tuesday by Charlotte County Sheriff’s Narcotics Unit detectives and road patrol deputies.
Donald Hayes Scott Jr., 31, of Shadow Lane, was arrested based on a months-long investigation that included previous drug stings.

A propane gas explosion sent two people to Englewood Community Hospital Wednesday morning.
It was workers in the hospital emergency room who notified the Englewood Fire Department of a potentially hazardous situation at 7229 Snow Road in Englewood East, according to a press release from EFD Chief Brian Gorski. After treating and admitting the two people for “substantial first and second degree burns,” ER personnel contacted the fire department.

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an 18-year-old Lemon Bay High School student found deceased in his Gardens of Gulf Cove home at 13599 Martha Ave.
The teen has been identified as Michael Angel Rojas, 18.
The Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at approximately 4:32 p.m. Thursday from a family member in reference to an unresponsive teenager. Charlotte County Fire & EMS responders found the Rojas in the residence.

1:31 a.m.: A civil disturbance was reported in the 200 block of Dearborn Street.

Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Cameron announced Monday that “Operation Medicine Cabinet has received overwhelming support in its first six-months that began last June and collected 707 pounds of expired or unused medications.” CCSO has deposit boxes located at the District-1 Office in Englewood, and the District 4 Office in Port Charlotte at Promenades Mall.
“The community support of this great program protects our young people from harmful misuse of prescription drugs; understand the needs of seniors, and the environmental implications related to the improper or unsafe disposal of medications,” Cameron said.

Susan Scott
Susan Scott has been named executive director of the Education Foundation of Sarasota County.
The longtime community leader was selected at a special meeting of the organization’s board of directors this week and starts Jan. 9.
Board Chairman Mike Bryant headed the search following Cindy Kaiser’s departure to deal with family health issues at the end of October.
“As we approach our 25th anniversary, we are all enthusiastic about the selection of Susan Scott as executive director,” he said. “The board is committed to the vision of expanding the Education Foundation’s presence and growing the impact our programs and financial support have on the school children of Sarasota County.”

A house fire on Manasota Key Wednesday morning drove two people from their home on the Charlotte County end of the island.
Englewood Fire Department received the call at 8:26 a.m., with station 71 responding to a home at 1165 Shoreview Drive.
