ENGLEWOOD, Fla. – An Englewood man with a long criminal record was arrested Thursday night after a shooting incident on Washington Avenue.

After a Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office investigation, Mark Stackhouse, 28, of 850 Michigan Ave., was charged with Aggravated Assault with a Firearm.

According to a SCSO news release, deputies responded around 8 p.m. Thursday night to the 200 block of Washington Avenue for reports of a shooting. When they arrived, two witnesses claimed the suspect started a confrontation at their home when he couldn’t find his girlfriend. The suspect then pulled out a handgun and pointed it at one the victims claiming he would kill him.

According to witnesses, the suspect returned twice more and, the final time, fired the handgun into a wooded area nearby the home, the release said. When detectives arrived, they located a shell casing nearby and identified the suspect.

Stackhouse fled the scene but was soon taken into custody in Port Charlotte by the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office.

After a medical incident occurred early Friday morning, deputies took him to Fawcett Memorial Hospital where he remains.

His extensive criminal history, according to the SCSO, includes 17 prior convictions and dozens of arrests in Sarasota County to include Burglary, Sale of Synthetic Narcotics, Aggravated Battery and several Violations of Probation.
