Dr. Thomas H. Pettit, 77, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Thursday, July 28, 2016, at his Charlotte County residence.
Born Aug. 23, 1938, in Johnson City, NY, to the late Harry and Elizabeth (Juriga) Pettit, he was a 1964 graduate of Cornell University with his DVM degree. Doc was the owner of the Oneonta Animal Hospital for 15 years prior to his retirement in 1999. He was a member of the New York State Veterinary Association and he was a professor at the Veterinary Science Technology department with Delhi State University and served as a dean for three years.
Doc is pre-deceased by one brother, James, and two sisters, Elizabeth and Gwen.
Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Shirley Ann Pettit of Port Charlotte, Fla.; two sons, Thomas Todd (Kathy) Pettit of West Oneonta, NY, and Jeffrey (Elizabeth) Pettit of Lebanon, Maine; one daughter, Elizabeth (Dr. Kirk) Johnston of Big Timber, Mont.; one sister, Cindy Fleming of Johnston City, NY; sister-in-law Rosemary Whyte of Binghamton, NY; six grandchildren: Thomas Jeffrey Pettit, Jessica Johnston, Nolan Johnston, Darby Johnston, Dylan Thomas Pettit, and Connor James Pettit.
