Dr. Thomas H. Pet­tit, 77, of Port Char­lotte, Fla.,  passed away Thurs­day, July 28, 2016, at his Char­lotte County residence.

Born Aug.  23, 1938, in John­son City, NY,  to the late Harry and Eliz­a­beth (Juriga) Pet­tit, he was a 1964 grad­u­ate of Cor­nell Uni­ver­sity with his DVM degree.  Doc was the owner of the Oneonta Ani­mal Hos­pi­tal for 15  years prior to his retire­ment in 1999.  He was a mem­ber of the New York State Vet­eri­nary Asso­ci­a­tion and he was a pro­fes­sor at the Vet­eri­nary Sci­ence Tech­nol­ogy depart­ment with Delhi State Uni­ver­sity and served as a dean for three years.

Doc is pre-deceased by one brother, James, and two sis­ters, Eliz­a­beth and Gwen.

Sur­vivors include his lov­ing wife of 56 years, Shirley Ann Pet­tit of Port Char­lotte, Fla.; two sons, Thomas Todd (Kathy) Pet­tit of West Oneonta, NY, and  Jef­frey (Eliz­a­beth) Pet­tit of Lebanon, Maine; one daugh­ter, Eliz­a­beth (Dr. Kirk) John­ston of Big Tim­ber, Mont.; one sis­ter, Cindy Flem­ing of John­ston City, NY; sister-in-law Rose­mary Whyte of Bing­ham­ton, NY; six grand­chil­dren: Thomas Jef­frey Pet­tit, Jes­sica John­ston, Nolan John­ston, Darby John­ston, Dylan Thomas Pet­tit, and Con­nor James Pettit.
