Submitted by SC Supervisor of Elections
SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. – Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections Kathy Dent is urging voters to ensure their signatures are up to date with the elections office.
“Signatures are very important in the elections process,” Dent said in an email news release. “The signatures on record with the supervisor of elections office are used to check voters’ signatures on vote-by-mail (absentee) ballots and provisional ballot certificates and on candidate and initiative petitions.”
A voter whose signature may have changed due to age, health, or other reasons is urged to update it with the SOE. Signature updates must be submitted on a Florida Voter Registration Application. Applications may be picked up in person at any SOE office in Sarasota, North Port and Venice, at other county offices or libraries, social service agencies, and many area banks. An application may also be downloaded from the SOE website at www.SarasotaVotes.com.
Voters who are voting by mail (absentee) and who need to update their signatures must do so prior to start of the absentee ballot canvass, which is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 19.
Monday, Aug. 1 (book closing date), is the deadline to register or to change political party affiliation to be eligible to vote in the Aug. 30 Primary Election.
New voter registrations must be submitted on a Florida Voter Registration Application (FVRA), available on the supervisor of elections (SOE) website, and at city halls, county libraries, county offices and social service agencies.
Voters who have questions or request additional information may visit the SOE website or call (941) 861‑8600.
