A memo­r­ial prayer ser­vice will be held at 2 p.m. Wednes­day, Feb. 17.

Bernard C. Nielsen, 86, of Port Char­lotte, Fla., passed away qui­etly Thurs­day, Feb. 11, 2016, at Tidewell Hos­pice in Port Charlotte.

Born Jan. 1, 1930, in Wauke­sha, Wis., he had served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Nielsen retired as a school cus­to­dian for the St. Mary’s School in Wauke­sha after 15 years. Since then, he has spent half his year in Florida and the other half in Wisconsin.

A mem­ber of the BPO Elks Lodge 2710 and the Amer­i­can Legion Post 113, both in Rotonda West, he attended St. Fran­cis of Assisi Parish in Florida and St. Mary’ s Parish in Wisconsin.

He is pre­de­ceased by his first wife, Mar­i­lyn, his sec­ond wife, Bon­nie, and a brother, Brian Nielsen.

Sur­vivors include his sib­lings, Sally McNally and Richard (Sharon) Nielsen, both of Wauke­sha; his lov­ing com­pan­ion, Joce­lyne Mar­so­lais; and her sons, Alain Mar­so­lais and Syl­vain Mar­so­lais, and his son, Jonathan, all of Mon­treal, Canada.

A memo­r­ial prayer ser­vice will be held at 2 p.m. Wednes­day, Feb. 17, at the Engle­wood Com­mu­nity Funeral Home with Pri­vate Cre­ma­tory, 3070 S McCall Road.
