Ernest Stephen Herger Sr., 74, of Rotonda West, Fla., passed away sud­denly Tues­day, Dec. 15, 2015, at his Char­lotte County residence.

Born Nov. 4, 1941, in Yonkers, N.Y., to the late Ernest and Helen (Mis­wick) Herger, he had served in the U.S Marines from 1959 to 1963. A mem­ber of the Elec­tri­cians Local Union #3 IBEW, he was affil­i­ated with the Westch­ester Mechan­ics and Key­stone Club. He moved to Florida nine years ago from Closter, N.J.

Ernest was a life mem­ber of the Closter Elks Lodge #2304, a past com­modore of the Sea­weed Yacht Club in Stony Point, N.Y.; a vol­un­teer at the White Marsh Golf & Coun­try Club in Rotonda West. He enjoyed spend­ing time with his fam­ily and help­ing oth­ers in need. He enjoyed coach­ing his chil­dren in var­i­ous sport activ­i­ties, fam­ily vaca­tions, boat­ing and fish­ing.  He will be missed by all who knew him.

Sur­vivors include his lov­ing wife of 52 years, Janet Herger of Rotonda West; a daugh­ter, Susan (Stephen) Talmo of Dumont, N.J.; two sons, Ernest (Patri­cia) Herger of Closter, N.J.; Robert (Robin) Herger of Fair­lawn, N.J.; a brother, William (Diane) Herger of Rotonda West; a sis­ter, Helen (Richard) Pinto of Mor­ris­town, N.J.; and six grand­chil­dren: Christina and Jen­nifer Talmo; Emily, Jor­dan, Samuel and Tyler Herger.

Funeral ser­vice and bur­ial will be in New Jersey.

A memo­r­ial ser­vice will be held at a later date.
