A memo­r­ial cel­e­bra­tion will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sat­ur­day, Dec. 5, at the home of his daughter.

John “Jack” Mur­ray, 78, of Engle­wood, Fla., passed away Fri­day, Nov. 27, 2015, at Faw­cett Memo­r­ial Hospital.

Born April 14, 1937, in New Lon­don, Conn., he had been a res­i­dent of Char­lotte County for 23 years since com­ing from Brent­wood, N.Y. He served in the U.S. Navy 1958 to 1961.  Jack was the owner/operator of John Mur­ray and Son Paint­ing for more than 20 years prior to retire­ment. He was inter­ested in golf­ing, fish­ing, bowl­ing and cruising.

He is sur­vived by his lov­ing wife of 54 years, Gail  Mur­ray of Engle­wood; a daugh­ter, Stacy (D.J.) Olney of Engle­wood; a son, Steven (Karen) Mur­ray of Land O’ Lakes, Fla.; two sis­ters, Betty New­ton and Jane Green, both of Gro­ton, Conn.; and three grand chil­dren, Kait­lyn, Christo­pher and Jennifer.
