Four-car crash results in arrest.

Updated Wednesday, Dec. 2 with deputy’s condition.

Correction 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 30: The Ninja was the vehicle stopped for the violation; the Tundra is the vehicle that struck the Tacoma.

ENGLEWOOD, Fla. – A Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office deputy was injured and an Englewood man is facing charges following a four-car crash Thursday night on South McCall Road at Edison Drive, near Mama’s Italian Restaurant.

Deputy Eric Knapp, 58, of Venice was taken to Bayfront Health Port Charlotte with what was described as a serious injury. Tuesday, CCSO reported Knapp was out of the hospital but not cleared to return to duty.

John Gregory McMorrow, 49, of 348 W. Wentworth St., was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol/Personal Injury to Another, DUI/Property Damage and Violation of the Move Over Law. He was released on $28,000 bond.

McMorrow was uninjured.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol report, McMorrow was headed west on South McCall Road about 7:45 p.m. Thursday when his 2012 Toyota Tacoma struck a Charlotte County Sheriff’s patrol car – a 2011 Ford Crown Victoria – that was parked in the north shoulder, emergency lights flashing, while conducting a traffic stop.

The impact caused the patrol car’s emergency lights to stop working, and another vehicle, a 2010 Toyota Tundra, struck the Tacoma, causing the the Tundra to overturn. The impact pushed the Toyota Tacoma into a 2008 Kawasaki Ninja driven by Jacob Michael Barone, 18, of Englewood, the vehicle that had been stopped for a violation.Barone was not injured.

The Tundra was driven by Amy Martin, 36, of Port Charlotte. One of her passengers, Kenneth Swallow, 74, of Port Charlotte, was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. A 5-year-old in the Tundra was unhurt.

The Ninja was the vehicle that was pulled over . The other Toyota pickup collided with the Tacoma .

Thanks. The FHP report was very confusing, didn’t label the vehicles like they usually do…
