Lomus “Wes” Welling­ton Pow­ell, 81, of Engle­wood, Fla., passed away peace­fully Wednes­day morn­ing, Oct. 7, 2015.

He was born and raised in Hartsville, S.C., to the late Andrew Ervin Pow­ell and Kath­leen (Orr) Pow­ell. After high school, he served in the U.S. Navy dur­ing the Korean War and went on to estab­lish a career in engi­neer­ing work­ing within var­i­ous industries.

He spent many years in the ‘70s coach­ing lit­tle league base­ball, was an avid gar­dener, and loved the Car­olina Game­cocks.
He moved to Engle­wood in 2014 and spent his time liv­ing out his dream of retir­ing in Florida.

Sur­vivors include daugh­ters Ann “Prisy” (David) Grimes, and Ann-Marie “ Boo” (Der­rick) Hicks; two grand­chil­dren, Matthew Topete and Ans­ley Hicks; and his daughter-in-law, Ellen McKaig.

Wes is pre­ceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Shirley Risinger Pow­ell, and his sons Michael “Mike” and Andrew “Andy” Powell.

In lieu of flow­ers, con­tri­bu­tions may be made in the mem­ory of Wes to the char­ity of your choice.
