Lawrence T. How­er­ton, 81, of Engle­wood, passed away Tues­day, Aug. 11, 2015, at Engle­wood Com­mu­nity Hospital.

Born Aug. 24, 1933, in South Boston, Va., he had served in the U.S. Army. Larry had owned and oper­ated sev­eral Sunoco gas sta­tions in the Detroit area and the Total Gas Sta­tion in St. Clair Shores, Mich. He retired in 1978 and moved to Engle­wood, where he enjoyed the Florida lifestyle and fish­ing. He was a mem­ber of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1933 in Englewood.

He is pre-deceased by his wife, Geral­dine “Gerry” in 2003, and a son, Jef­fery Scott, in 2014.

Sur­vivors include his daugh­ters: Debra Lugiewicz and Linda How­er­ton both of Port Char­lotte, Fla.; com­pan­ion: Kathy King; four grand­chil­dren; three great-grandchildren and his dear par­rot, Buckwheat.

A pri­vate ser­vice will be held at a later date.
