Charles “Buddy” Mur­ray O’Brien

Charles “Buddy” Mur­ray O’Brien, 87, of Engle­wood, Fla., passed away peace­fully in the com­pany of his long­time com­pan­ion on Thurs­day, Feb. 5, 2015, at Tidewell Hos­pice in Englewood.

Born on June 23, 1927, in Alli­son, Pa., to the late Charles and Helen (Sil­man) O’Brien; he had been a res­i­dent of Sara­sota County for 11 years since com­ing from Solomons, Md.

Employed by Town and Coun­try Devel­op­ers in North­ern Vir­ginia, he retired as gen­eral man­ager after 38 years. He was a mem­ber of Sons of the Amer­i­can Legion Squadron 180; Loyal Order of Moose 2393; B.P.O. Elks Lodge 2188 all in Mary­land. An avid boater, he was a mem­ber of the Solomons Island Yacht Club and served as a past Fleet Captain.

He is pre-deceased by his sis­ter, Alma Wright.

Sur­vivors include his lov­ing com­pan­ion of 34 years, Diane Lee Fer­gu­son of Engle­wood; a son, Den­nis (Sue) O’Brien of Fair­fax, Va.; a sis­ter, Janet (Sam) Gal­lagher of Union­town, Pa.; a step-daughter, Valerie Weaver and her chil­dren, Kate­lyn, Leigha and Dan­ica Weaver, all of Bunker Hill, W. Va.; and sev­eral nieces and a nephew.

A memo­r­ial ser­vice will be held at a later date in Maryland.
