Harold Leroy Ten­dam, 92, of Port Char­lotte, Fla., died Wednes­day, Feb­ru­ary 4, 2015 at Tid­well Hos­pice Englewood.

He was born Feb. 5, 1922, in Hamil­ton, Ohio, to William and Bertha (Getz) Tendam.

Harold served in the U.S. Army at the Bat­tle of the Bulge dur­ing World War II. He was the pay­roll super­vi­sor for Gen­eral Motors for 30 years, retir­ing in 1979. He was a mem­ber of Gulf Cove United Methodist Church Port Char­lotte, Ben Franklin #719 F & AM in Hamil­ton, Ohio, Scot­tish Rite – Val­ley of Cincin­nati, Araba Shrine Fort Myers, Fla.; Hon­orary Ken­tucky Colonel, life mem­ber and past com­man­der of Amer­i­can Legion Post 113 Rotonda West, past com­man­der of VFW Post 10476 Rotonda West, mem­ber of Elks Lodge 2710 Rotonda, 87th Inf. Div. Past Com­man­der & Trea­surer, 40 & 8 Amer­i­can Legion Post 110 Port Char­lotte, past com­man­der of Amer­i­can Legion Dis­trict 13 and very active in civic affairs dur­ing the 1990s.

Sur­vivors include his wife, Esther Gro­gan; daugh­ters Linda (Edmond) Har­ris of Engle­wood and Peggy (Roy) Car­mack of Port Char­lotte; step-children Susan Carm­edy and Andrew Bul­mer; daughter-in-law Amber Ten­dam; brother Jack Ten­dam; sis­ter Elaine Thomp­son; 11 grand­chil­dren and numer­ous great and great-great grandchildren.

He was pre­ceded in death by two wives: Mary Jane Wil­son in 1997and Lois Megli­etto in 2003; his son, Ken­neth Ten­dam, in 1993; and five brothers.

Vis­i­ta­tion will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sat­ur­day, Feb. 7, at Engle­wood Com­mu­nity Funeral Home Inc. 3070 S. McCall Road. Fur­ther ser­vices will be from the Weigel Funeral Home LLC, 980 NW Wash­ing­ton Blvd., Hamil­ton, Ohio with inter­ment in Green­wood Ceme­tery Hamil­ton, Ohio. A memo­r­ial ser­vice will be held at the Rotonda West Amer­i­can Legion at a later date.

In lieu of flow­ers the fam­ily requests con­tri­bu­tions in Harold’s mem­ory to St. Jude’s Children’s Hos­pi­tal 501 St. Jude Place Memo­r­ial and Honor Pro­gram Mem­phis, TN 38195.
