John J. Yanovich, 72,

John J. Yanovich, 72, of Rotonda West, Fla., died peace­fully Sat­ur­day, Jan. 17, 2015, at the Mof­fitt Can­cer Cen­ter in Tampa, Fla., with his devoted fam­ily at his side.

John was born in Mid­dle­town, Conn., to John and Mary (Golab) Yanovich.

He has been a res­i­dent of Florida for 11 years since com­ing from East Hamp­ton, Conn. He served in the U.S. Army, sta­tioned in Ger­many, dur­ing the Korean Con­flict. Mr. Yanovich was a proud mem­ber of the Team­sters Local 671. A life­time fan of the Boston Red Sox, he enjoyed golf­ing and was a jack of all trades.

Sur­vivors include his wife of 40 years, Myrna; four chil­dren: Patri­cia Berger of Los Ange­les, Calif., Michael John O’Hearn Sr. (Ruth) of Reads­boro, Vt., Mar­vin O’Hearn (Cathy) Of East Hamp­ton, Conn., Kelli Jean Ged­deis (Brad) of Rotonda, Fla.; a sis­ter, Joan Vol­mar (Bill) of Niantic, Conn.; 15 grand­chil­dren, 20 great-grandchildren, two nieces and two nephews. Jack cre­ated a lot of joy for his grand and great-grandchildren and received it back ten­fold from them.

A Cel­e­bra­tion of Life will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Thurs­day, Jan. 22, at Engle­wood Com­mu­nity Funeral Home, Inc. 3070 S. McCall Road.

In lieu of flow­ers, the fam­ily requests con­tri­bu­tions be sent in Mr. Yanovich’s mem­ory to Sun­rise Kiwa­nis Shoes for Kids of Port Char­lotte or the Mof­fitt Can­cer Center.
