To Mr. Robert Skidmore and Commissioners,
In my opinion, and I am sure many others who received their TRIM notices, the county has perpetuated a really bad joke in the form of the TRIM notices. Not only has the county administration increased the assessed value of my property, blaming the state of course, but really have added insult to injury by increasing the tax rate for every single category of taxing unit. This happens to be the third straight year of increases for this household.
Not only is the school board out of control, I suggest the county administration is likewise out of control. And if I remember correctly, each one of the commissioners (except maybe one) promised to reduce the cost of county government and therefore TAXES.
I have scanned both the school board’s budget and the county’s organizational charts and budgets. In my opinion there are many areas where staffs can be streamlined and cost of operation and projects (many of which are probably not needed) can be reduced. I am sorry but I see waste and inefficiency every day.
Please allow me to point out some really sad facts of life today in case you have not seen the news lately: Home sales are the lowest in 15 years; inventory is over 12 months old.
Home foreclosures are at their highest levels in history.
Home prices, thus value, have fallen in most cases 35 to 50 percent. Yet our assessed values have increased?
Unemployment continues to rise to about 10 percent probably higher than 16 percent in Charlotte County People like my self are losing their retirement investments (including homesteads) at unprecedented levels.
Yes the perpetuation of a bad joke, the TRIM notice and what is to follow!

Mr. Bevington,
In checking the three properties that you own, it looks as if two of the three went down significantly in assessed value and the (homesteaded) one that went up is probably assessed at less than resale value due to the 3% cap on it’s valuation.
Unfortunately, we are all paying for uncontrolled spending, but not many were complaining when prices were going up and we were protected by the 3% cap on valuation.
