Sarasota school offices open for student registration

Submitted by Sarasota County Public Schools

Parents who have not yet registered their children for the new school year are urged to do so as soon as possible, so schools will have an accurate enrollment picture for the coming year for staffing and planning purposes.

Registering students before the school year starts is especially important this year, as the final phase of the 2002 class size amendment to the Florida Constitution is implemented. This phase of the implementation will hold individual class sizes to maximum levels that vary by grade. Although the new Amendment 8 eventually could change some class size requirements if it is approved by voters in November, school districts must adhere to the mandates of the final phase of the original class size amendment that will go into effect at the beginning of this school year.

Sarasota County children are assigned to Englewood Elementary School. Most Englewood middle and high school  students in Sarasota County attend L.A. Ainger Middle and Lemon Bay High, which are part of the Charlotte County system. Those schools open Aug. 9.

Phone numbers and addresses for each school, as well as attendance zone maps, are available at http://www.SarasotaCountySchools.net/schools.aspx or by calling the district at 941−927−9000.
