Lemon Bay Garden Club members are spending the summer learning new crafts and working in their acre-plus garden.
At 9:30 a.m. each Friday, members meet at the clubhouse to work on various craft projects in preparation for the annual Garden Fair and Garden Tour held in November. Projects include pictures and tree ornaments made out of sea shells, as well as intricate shell flowers and arrangements.
Some members work on “contrived” flowers made out of all natural materials such as leaves and tree pods; they are painted and look real, but need no watering. Often these flowers are used in everlasting wreaths as well as arrangements. Others make sought-after note cards and bridge tallies out of fabric and dried flowers.

Every summer new projects are added, new skills are learned and new friends are made.
At about the same time, a group forms in the garden to work in the butterfly garden, add or transplant a variety of plants and learn to propagate new plants for resale from cuttings. This is a good way for new Florida gardeners to learn about gardening here and landscaping.
The public is invited to join members on Friday mornings at the Lemon Bay Garden Club clubhouse at 480 Yale St. (corner of Yale and Cedar streets) in Olde Englewood. Crafters are invited to bring a bag lunch; dessert and beverages will be provided. Gardeners take a well-deserved snack break as well.
