Kjeldgaard finished 4-for-5 with a pair of home runs and seven RBI. He narrowly missed connecting for a third homer in his final at-bat, instead settling for a double that rattled off the center field wall.
Charlotte pitchers were lit up for a season-high 15 runs and 18 hits by the Brevard County offense.
Frank De Los Santos (7–5) surrendered eight runs — seven earned — on 11-hits in taking the loss.
The first of two three-run homers from Kjeldgaard came in the bottom of the fourth inning off De Los Santos. That round-tripper erased a one-run Charlotte lead and turned it into a 4–2 Manatees advantage.
Brevard County (12−9) put the game out of reach with a six-run seventh inning against a pair of Charlotte relievers.
After a fielding error and single opened the bottom of the seventh, Kjeldgaard belted his second three-run blast of the night, this time off Rayner Oliveros. Five batters later, Sean Halton put the punctuation mark on the inning by screaming a three-run homer of his own against Justin Garcia.
The duo of Oliveros and Garcia combined to allow seven runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings of relief.
On the offensive side for the Stone Crabs (9−13), Tim Beckham and Matt Spring both finished 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI. Christopher Murrill also went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
The series concludes today as Matt Moore (4−8) takes the mound for the Stone Crabs against fellow lefty Dan Merklinger (3−4). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
CRAB NOTES: The three homers allowed ties the single-game high allowed by Charlotte pitchers this season. … Win or lose, it was an ugly game. Both teams committed three errors, and left a slew of runners on base (Charlotte 14, Brevard 15). … Closer Zach Quate has enjoyed a great run of success against his FSL opponents, and set a club record in the process. The 10th inning run scored against Quate Thursday night broke a streak of 25 consecutive scoreless innings compiled by the righty reliever. The Manatees now own two of the three runs plated against him this season.
