Most Charlotte County and Sarasota County Government offices and facilities will be closed Monday, July 5, in observance of the Independence Day holiday.
The collection schedule for solid waste, yard waste and recyclables will remain on the regular pickup schedule in both counties.
In Charlotte, both Mini-Transfer Facilities (West Charlotte and Mid County) will be closed Monday, while the Zemel Road landfill will be open.

In Sarasota, the landfill at 4000 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis will be open July 3 and July 5, closed on July 4. The landfill administrative office will be closed July 3 and July 5. Regular operating hours will be in effect at Sarasota County’s chemical collection center at 4010 Knights Trail Road, Nokomis, July 3 and July 5, but the center will be closed on Sunday, July 4. The chemical collection centers at 8750 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota, and 250 S. Jackson Road, Venice, will be closed July 4 and July 5.
Charlotte’s Sunshine Ride will be closed Monday, but Dial-A-Ride will be open regular operating hours.
In Sarasota, SCAT service will not operate July 4.
Libraries and recreation centers in both counties will be closed Sunday and Monday, but Charlotte’s skate parks will remain open on their regular schedules.
Charlotte pools will be open July 4, closed July 5.
In Sarasota, Arlington Park Pool will be open noon to 5 p.m. July 3–4. Lido Beach Pool will be open 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. July 3–4. North Port Pool will be open 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. July 3 but will be closed July 4.
Charlotte County Historical Center will be closed July 5–6.

The holiday is July 4th. Those of us who pay the salaries of all these “Government workers”, will be back on the job July 5th.
Just for the record, the Military Heritage Museum http://www.freedomisntfree.org
in Fisherman’s Village will be open Sunday, July 4th and those of us (who don’t even get paid to be there), will be on the job as usual.
If you don’t have a barbecue to go to or fireworks to blow up, you could drop by and view all the artifacts donated by the folks who fought to bring you this “Independence”.
