Pain medication addicts concern doctor

To the editor:

I have been practicing chiropractic and physiotherapy in Englewood now for 11 years. I normally co treat many of patients with a couple of different medical doctors so my patients can get the best from both worlds.

In the last year I have become painfully aware of an epidemic of drug abuse that has its origons in a couple of medical offices in the area. I have observed a couple of doctors that are prescribing highly addictive drugs for people who simply want to get high. I believe that there are now hundreds of people in Charlotte County who are addicted to Oxycodone, which, in my opinion, is a form of heroin.

I have noticed that recently a number of the pain clinics have either been shut done or raided by the FBI. The new problem is what happens now to all the people who are now addicted to the drugs they can no longer get from the clinics.
