The Foundation awarded a total of 366 scholarships this year to students from Sarasota and Charlotte counties and Boca Grande. Through its scholarship program, the Foundation assists students of all ages who will be pursuing higher education at a vocational school, two– or four-year college, or graduate institution.
“The jobs of the future will require creative, innovative thinkers with education at the postsecondary level and beyond,” said Teri A. Hansen, president and CEO of Gulf Coast Community Foundation. “The Foundation’s scholarships help put students on career paths that will improve their lives and the lives of their families.”
Funding for the scholarships comes from the Foundation’s endowment as well as dozens of scholarship funds created by generous donors to the Foundation. Since 1997, the Foundation has invested about $4 million in the education of local students through scholarships.
“Many of our donors are passionate about helping students fulfill their dreams of higher education,” added Hansen. “The scholarships awarded from their funds are direct investments in the future of our community.”
